Ethanol will jump from consuming a quarter of the crop now to a half in the next decade, says the Agriculture Department, but will eventually recede as ethanol-makers use more switch grass and other materials. Corn used to make processed food and in other industrial uses will grow by 40 percent. On the other hand, corn for animal feed or stored for reserves, now 45 percent of the crop, will rise no more than 3 percent over the decade, says the Agriculture Department, as the meat industry matures. Exports will be flat, too.
